A majority of the products at Unfinished Furniture Expo are made of Parawood hardwood. In this post, we would like to tell you a little bit about it, so you can become familiar with what you are purchasing.
Parawood is also known as rubberwood, plantation hardwood, or Malaysian Oak. It is grown in Indonesia and Central America on rubber plantations. As you see with our furniture, it is a light-colored tropical wood. Parawood is known to be environmentally friendly, as each tree is grown from previous trees that had been felled. These trees secret a sap known as latex at 5/6 years old and continue until the tree is between 25 – 30 years old. The trees can grow to be 80 feet tall.
Parawood is very durable, which makes it great for furniture. Furniture will withstand daily wear and tear, which allows you to find the perfect furniture for a bedroom, kitchen, office, or living room. It also saws easily and stains well. Along with its durability, this wood is also low maintenance, so you don’t need to spend a lot of money to take care of it. It is stain resistant, which helps you to keep your Parawood furniture looking shiny and new. Parawood is great for any part of your home, except for your outdoor space. It is known to warp and rot very easily, so it is not ideal in rain or extreme temperatures/weather conditions.
