With Rustic Italian décor, you can create a beautiful kitchen and/or dining room, one that you will want to spend so much time in. It is simple to accomplish and it creates a warm, inviting look within your home. Recently on Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna went with Rustic Italian décor to fix up a suburban home. Although that may sound like an arm and a leg to do, it is a possible project for one to accomplish on their own, especially in a kitchen or dining room space. You do not have to call in experts to achieve this particular style. As long as you have access to unfinished wood furniture and the eagerness for a new project, you can easily achieve the same look that they managed to create.
On Fixer Upper, they transformed a kitchen with just a few major pieces that really emphasized the Rustic Italian look they wanted. In the middle of the kitchen, they added an island piece that had lots of counter space and storage space. Off the kitchen, in the dining room, they placed a beautiful rustic dining set. Both pieces had similar wood finishes, keeping the Rustic Italian style consistent throughout the home. These seem like pretty extravagant pieces but, they can be affordable to those who would like to apply a Rustic Italian style to their house as well. You do not have to spend an arm and a leg to get the same dining room and/or kitchen.
Here at Unfinished Furniture Expo, similar islands and dining sets can be found. They are unfinished of course but, it is easy and fun to finish them yourself. There is a center piece for a kitchen currently on sale for $949.95 and it comes with free shipping. Like the piece on Fixer Upper, the surface is a good size and it comes with a lot of storage space. With a little imagination and creativity, the design and layout can be near identical.
We offer many different tables on our site but one that is similar to that on the show is on sale for $1,149.95, also with free shipping. We also have chairs that are nearly identical to the ones from Fixer Upper – they come in a set of 2 for $199.95, also on sale with free shipping. Achieving Chip and Joanna’s Rustic Italian look is possible and it is also affordable. It can turn into a fun project when you purchase these pieces and then finish them yourself to fit your Rustic Italian styled kitchen and dining room.
Now that you have your pieces, there are a few different ways you can finish them in order to get the perfect Rustic Italian style you want. Many wood pieces within this style have warm-stained finishes in dark brown or rich black and/or the pieces are hand-painted. Distressed and whitewash finishes are the most common. There are also finishes you can apply to either the table or the island piece that are safe for food. An oil finish is highly recommended for surfaces that will come in contact with food, specifically a drying oil. Oils such as Tung, linseed, safflower, soybean, and walnut are most recommended. For the indoor surfaces specifically, an oil and wax mix will be most beneficial. Take one part beeswax and five parts of a drying oil of your choice and heat them up until they turn into a liquid. This can then be applied to the surface with a cloth. This kind of finish allows the surface to be more durable, as well as safe for food should it ever need to come in contact with it.
The Rustic Italian style is incredibly beautiful, cozy, and warm. It is such a great style that Chip and Joanna decided to roll with it in their latest episode. They had gorgeous results but, they are not the only ones who can achieve that style. You can go out today and purchase similar pieces and create your own Rustic Italian style, without hiring professionals or paying an arm and a leg. Your kitchen and/or dining room can become a fun project for you and/or others.
